The days of record shopping do seem to be continuosly pushed into the background with the dawn of the digital download age but in every town and city there are always the venders of specialist vinyl that feed the real music fans, DJs and producers alike with sounds of yesteryear and limited edition presses from tomorrow. A great example of where this can be witnessed firsthand is in Manhattan especially in and aorund the East Village.

While the demand may not be what it was pre 9-11, record shops have become smaller and more tailored to their customers needs. Prices have lowered a bit too over the last 10 years for collectible records. But no matter how good you are at using eBay or buying up collections from DJs/collectors who are getting rid of their vinyl nothing beats hanging around your local record shop for an afternoon with a few quid in the pocket and some colourful characters to talk and exchange music with.

Our man from Big City, Jared Boxx knows his music and hipped us to this blog from David at Stashin Records.

This blog is the beginning towards a future book/guide to all New York record shops and soon to come interviews & stories of past and present stores. If you do find time to check this out, leave some comments, I know it will mean alot to Dave, that people are interested.
