DJ Mek has hooked us up with a great mix he originally recorded for Arista Records back in 1998. A great selection of (then) new releases and hot-off-the-press acetates…

DJ Mek is often referred to as the grandfather of Irish HipHop. More accurately he’s one of the first DJs to introduce HipHop and more notably the art of HipHop DJing, scratching and beat-digging to Ireland. As part of the Scary Eire crew (where he provided the cuts, the beats and contributed to the general mayhem) Mek solidified his reputation as a solid HipHop DJ as well as being more than capable of rocking a club crowd as well as the loyal following of fans Scary had during the early to mid-90s. Mek has also collaborated with a myriad of artists, from Rodney P to Ian Brown. Highly regarded in Hip-Hop and Reggae circles on both sides of the Irish sea Mek is the benchmark for a lot of DJs who obsess about vinyl and beats.
Arista Records commissioned Mek to do this mix in 1998. According to Mek “it was a tricky one cos a lot of the tracks were on acetates. There’s some great tracks on there and a few of them never got a proper commercial release”. Cheers to Mek for this mix.
