EDAN is known for his unlikely take on hip-hop culture, where traditional rap songs are often skewed by 60’s rock samples, tape echoes, and foreign language choruses, not to mention the
off-beat humor and surrealist imagery incorporated via his lyrics. His latest mega-mix, entitled ‘Echo Party’, is an astounding pastiche of dance, rapp, and punk that utilizes everything from turntables to tape echo, glockenspiel to guitar, and moog to kazoo. His previous effort, “Beauty And The Beat” drew worldwide acclaim. Despite being off the beaten track musically Edan blends these influences perfectly into something new. But the thing is he has the skills to back it up. The man is a top turntabilist and mc, taking it back to basics and forward at the same time. Rock-based psychedelia married with some of the pillars of hip-hop and whatever’s taking his fancy at the time…
On stage, his repertoire includes cutting up records such as Thin Lizzy’s ‘Johnny the Fox’ while spitting his verse over it in good time, not to mention simultaneously stepping on a delay pedal for the sake of added texture…
“Beauty and the Beat’ sounds like a record made by someone who once devoured the catalog and history of his favorite artists, traced their lineage as far back as he could, and has discovered his place in the genealogy. With that enlightenment, EDAN is no longer an impersonation of his idols, but one of their peers.”
-Pitchfork
“Beauty and the Beat’ is a rare, valuable record that channels two markedly different types of music into a new one, a collage of sounds that hasn’t been heard in a very long time”

Ever since PATEN LOCKE can remember he always wanted to put his own spin on Hip Hop culture, and with a move to Jacksonville, Florida in the late 1990s he was able to do just that. Now, in 2010, Paten is performing his solo material, keeping the crowd moving deejaying in clubs, releasing videos and much more to support his debut release “Super Ramen Rocket Ship”. He is already beginning work on a follow up to his debut LP. More recently, he and his good friend Edan have banded together to create a live show with intentions of progressing the art. (Much credit must be given to Edan’s colleague, Dagha.) The current live show is a result of their agreement that stage performance is paramount in the modern age. The duo aim to show what can be achieved through a little bit of extra preparation between like-minded individuals…
