Together with fellow MC Q Tip and Dj Ali Shaheed Muhammad, PHIFE DAWG is one third of A TRIBE CALLED QUEST, one of Hip Hops most legendary, beloved and revered groups of all time.
Easily recognized for their unique approach to Rap music by employing jazz infused soundscapes toAfro centric rhymes, sans the jaded and often nihilistic aggressive posturing associated with Hip Hop, A Tribe Called Quest was largely responsible for the popularity of a new genre influencing a generationof rappers and producers to come. (Common, Roots, Fugees, MosDef, Neptunes, Kayne West)
As the flagship of the Native Tongue Posse (along with De La Soul, Jungle Brothers, Queen Latifah and Monie Love), Tribe was one of the first artists with jazzy-funky sounds and intellectual lyrics revolutionizing
Hip Hop at the end of the 80s up to 1998, selling five platinum and gold LPs.
The Tribe albums “People’s Instinctive Travels and The Paths of Rhythm” (1990), “The Low End Theory “(1991) and” Midnight Marauders “(1993), are regarded as three milestone releases in music history.

They have proved a fresh alternative to the harder edged Rap that had been dominat ever since the emergence of Rap as a Hip Hop genre and remain one of the biggest crowd pullers in the Hip Hop world most recently seen in the much talked about movie “’Beats, Rhymes & Life”: The history of A Tribe Called Quest directed by actor MichealRapaport.
With countless classics under his belt PHFE DAWG is going to promote his brand new solo album “SONGZ IN THA’ KEY OF PHIFE”.
