Next Friday 4th September is the time and place; Anyone with a penchant for disco music, clubbing and musical icons can we have your attention please. Our good friend DJ Monk One (Wax Poetics) has recently announced that himself and his crew in Brooklyn will be joined by none other than remix producer pioneer Tom Moulton on Friday September 4th on their program ‘The Rare Radio Show’.
Moulton is cited as creating the remix/edit and has produced records for artists like Gloria Gaynor, Trammps, Claudja Barry, Peoples Choice, Grace Jones and many more of disco and soul music’s glitterati and created the influential extended breaks and long playing mixes that inspired disco culture and DJing in the 1970s.
While we will be at Electric Picnic drinking poitin we urge you to get an education and make sure you listen to this tasty show and if you don’t catch it live, you can listen back later here.

As per DJ Monk One:
The Rare Radio Show started about 10 years ago when me & DJ Emskee were asked to fill in for a block of overnight shows on WBAI. We were big fans of classic disco, boogie and the sounds of legendary NYC clubs like the Paradise Garage, the Loft, etc, and so we conceived the idea of doing a special based around them. The show ran 5 hours straight with no commercial interruptions and included me, Emskee, Spinna, 3D and the team of vinyl historians Tomkat & Randy Anderson.
We’ve done 34 shows since then (this will be the 35th) and featured DJs like Red Alert, Easy Mo Bee (all well worth checking out folks!) and others as guests playing their interpretations of a NYC dance classics set.
Lots of these shows have been archived (search at deephousepage.com) and as we pride ourselves on digging out the deepest stuff and never repeating songs, have become a sort of textbook/tip sheet of dance music.
Anyway, the latest show will be kicked off with a rare live, in-studio interview with the legendary Tom Moulton, father of the 12-inch single, remix and the disco break.
It starts at 9:30PM NY time (2:30AM Ireland I believe) and can be heard live at http://stream.wbai.org/.
I think my set will start around 1AM NYC, or 6AM Irish time?
The Rare Radio Show #35 on WBAI 99.5fm in NYC feat. and interview w/ the legendary disco producer/remixer TOM MOULTON. 9:30pm to 5am…COMMMERCIAL FREE!!
7 1/2 hrs!! Dj’s Emskee, Tony Vega, Monk One, 3D, Tomcat, and Randy Anderson. Classic and obscure dance music from the 70′s to the present. Not to be missed. Stream live around the world at wbai.org.
