Over 40,000 sales of the album since its release, who said funk was dead. Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings are by far the most accomplished funk outfit in the world right now. Years of steady output has seen them and their Daptone label position itself as the bastion for fun music in this millenium.
Sharon is not retro vocalist however, Ms. Jones is the real deal, bona fide, she grew up listening to this soul music and never got her chance to shine when this sound was in its prime. This album is her best release and the video below demonstrates how far the ante has been upped since the first 45′s were dropping in the late 1990′s..
This video is the title of the album ‘I Learned The Hard Way’ and it’s a stormer. Directed by Philip Di Fiore with a cameo from Lee Fields. enjoy and please head to Daptone Records for more of this if your not hip already. Keep an eye out for Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings touring this year…one of the best live shows around.
